\"spiral-clock\"<\/a>one word: distraction.
\nthree times a second.
\neverywhere.
\nand all of them, in some way, important.
\nit seems impossible sometimes.
\nmaking time to capture your thoughts.
\nwhat a simple pleasure that is:
\nhaving the freedom to write.
\nwhenever you feel the need
\nto put down, on paper,
\nfor decades and centuries to come,
\nthe precise constitution of your mind
\nat a specific point in time,
\nat some a specific place,
\nin some specific way.
\nsometimes it’s a power cord.
\nsometimes, a cellphone.
\nsometimes, even an in-law.
\nwhichever leash you’re wearing,
\nbe sure it isn’t strong enough
\nto hold you back.
\nbecause the writer’s struggle isn’t one of words;
\nit’s one of ideas.<\/p>\n

words are his tools; ideas are his chores.
\nideas are his hobbies.
\nideas,
\ninevitably,
\nbecome his life.<\/p>\n

so wherever you lie,
\non that great spectrum of creativity,
\nwe all have something in common.
\nwe all want to share our story with the world.
\nwe all want to create.
\nwe all want to survive;
\nfor longer than our bodies.
\nbut never than our minds.<\/p>\n

ah, the mind.
\nthe only eternal element.
\nthat patron of the soul.
\nthat elusive inner beast.
\nthat keeper of your real self-image.
\nthat beacon of all that you are.<\/p>\n

the mind.
\nthat steward of the heart.
\nthat elusive inner song.
\nthat keeper of your real desires.
\nthat shepherd of all that you need.<\/p>\n

the mind.
\nthat sceptre of the body.
\nthat elusive outer shell.
\nthat keeper of your real abilities.
\nthat leader of all that you feel.<\/p>\n

deep,
\nin the vast creative ether of the mind,
\nlies the writer’s greatest struggle.
\nlies his one unscaled peak.
\nlies his gentle inspiration.
\nin the mind.
\nthat always gets…
